Players of Flinthook get to take on the role of a quirky space captain who is set on a mission to blast his way through the various rooms in a gigantic spaceship in search of treasure and fame. The character is armed with a blast pistol as well as a special hookshot and slow motion powers that help him to do battle with the numerous weird and wacky characters that he encounters along the way. Like most classic platform games, there are several different levels, each of which ends with am epic battle against a tough boss, although there are also plenty of unique touches thrown into the mix.

Although these challenges help to add a new dimension to the game, the play and progression are ultimately rather formulaic and predictable. However, Flinthook is so addictive and engaging that most gamers are unlikely to care or in fact even notice this shortcoming.
